Frequently asked questions
Practical answers about ski and snowboard lessons in Engelberg, booking, equipment, freeride days and tours.
Booking
Book private ski, snowboard or freeride lessons online: choose your sport, level, language and day, or book directly from an instructor’s page. For custom hours or other resorts, send a request.
Yes. On each instructor’s page you can see their sports, languages and available days, contact them and book directly.
Book early for Christmas, New Year and February. The school calendar shows every free day, and each instructor’s page their own. Online bookings are possible until 19:00 the day before; for later or same-day lessons, give us a call or ask an instructor who is free that day.
Card, TWINT, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal and Klarna, paid at checkout. Extras we buy for you, such as lift passes, are paid later with a payment link, with the same options. So are posted tours and weeks: the link comes with your confirmation.
Free of charge until 17:00 the day before: log in on our page, use the link in your confirmation, get in touch by email phone or WhatsApp, or tell your instructor directly. Lift passes and train tickets we bought for you are third-party services, so we can’t refund them: Titlis or SBB decide, under their own rules.
Lessons
We offer private snowboard lessons and ski lessons for kids and adults, from beginner to advanced. Snowboard freeride coaching is for confident riders, with skiers welcome in the group. Join a posted splitboard or ski tour, or request one for your own group.
Up to five in one private lesson, freeride and touring included. Prices are for one person, plus CHF 30 for each extra person (CHF 40 on tours). On posted tours, each tour’s page shows its group size; sign up on your own or with friends.
Your group can have different experience levels. The instructor adapts the coaching and chooses terrain suited to the least experienced person. If your goals are very different, ask us which format fits best.
Yes. We offer private ski and snowboard lessons for children and adults. There is no fixed minimum age: your child should feel ready to learn. Children can take a lesson on their own or with their family.
English, German and French are available across the team. Choose your language when booking, or check the languages on your instructor’s profile.
Lessons take place in most weather, as long as the resort runs lifts, even partly. If the whole resort is closed or conditions are unsafe, we cancel before the lesson starts and offer you another date, or refund the lesson price. Purchased tickets and transport follow their providers’ cancellation rules. Once the lesson has started, your instructor may change the plan or end it early for weather or safety, without a refund; a suitable alternative is offered where possible.
Your private lesson with one instructor, the day planned around your goals and the conditions, and practical help to make your day as smooth as possible, for example with rentals or a restaurant reservation. Not included: lift passes, rental gear and train tickets. More on Prices.
Yes, skiers and snowboarders can share a private lesson. Your booked instructor is guaranteed to teach the sport you selected; teaching both sports is only possible with an instructor who teaches both. Check the instructor profiles and contact your instructor before booking if you want coaching in both sports.
Meeting
For ski and snowboard lessons, meet at the main entrance of the Titlis valley station, Gerschnistrasse 12 in Engelberg, five minutes before the start. Another meeting point may be possible by agreement. See the meeting point and map.
By train from Lucerne in 43 minutes, or by car with parking at the valley station. Timetable and train tickets: SBB.
Yes, with full-day lessons. Your instructor meets you at your Lucerne hotel and travels with you by train or private taxi. See Lucerne pickup options and prices.
Passes & gear
Gerschnialp for your first lessons, the Titlis resort pass from blue runs on. Buy them in the Titlis ticket shop, or we buy them for you: see Extras.
For snowboards we recommend Boardlocal in Engelberg, for skis Intersport Titlis at the valley station. We reserve your gear at either: tell us your sizes. Your instructor can also help with the rental at the start of the lesson; that time counts toward the lesson. For touring gear, see Touring.
Bring warm, waterproof clothing, gloves, goggles, sun cream and a helmet, plus your ski or snowboard equipment and lift pass. Use the lesson packing checklist. Freeride and touring need additional equipment listed in their sections below.
Freeride
A federally certified snowboard instructor with the cantonal authorization for off-piste and touring.
Yes. Freeride coaching is taught on a snowboard, and skiers can join the group. Skiers share the terrain, route choice and safety planning; dedicated freeride technique coaching on skis is not part of this offer.
You should ride confidently on red pistes. The day’s terrain and coaching are chosen for your level and the conditions. If you are unsure whether you are ready for snowboard freeride, ask us before booking.
Transceiver, shovel and probe are mandatory for every freeride day and not included in the base price. Bring your own, or add the kit when you book: CHF 38 a day, or CHF 52 with an airbag backpack, booked by 17:00 the day before.
Freeride days depend on the avalanche conditions and the weather. If they don’t allow sensible off-piste riding, you hear as early as we know, at the latest by 17:30 the evening before, when the new avalanche bulletin is out, and the day is moved or cancelled free of charge. You can cancel free of charge until 17:00 the day before, as with every lesson. We confirm the planned go/no-go decision by then; conditions can still change overnight or during the day. Once started, the instructor can adapt or end the activity for safety or weather, without a refund, offering a suitable alternative where possible.
Touring
A federally certified snowboard instructor with the cantonal authorization for off-piste and touring.
Sign up for a date on the tour’s page and your place is confirmed straight away. The confirmation brings your payment link and exact deadline. Payment is due within the number of days after signing up stated on the tour’s page. A tour runs from the smallest group shown on its page; if fewer have signed up by 17:00 three days before, we call it off, you get everything back, and 10% off your next tour. The meeting point, the kit list and the day step by step are on the tour’s page. The exact deadline, in Swiss local time, is in your confirmation and is no later than the activity starts. If payment is not received by then, your unpaid reservation is cancelled, its payment link is closed and the places are released. We email you when this happens. The tour’s cancellation rules and any applicable fees still apply.
Yes. Tours are led on a splitboard, with skiers welcome. Ascent skills such as skinning, kick turns and pace are explained for both. On the descent, skiers share the route and safety planning; dedicated freeride technique coaching on skis is not included.
A splitboard or touring skis with skins, a helmet, and avalanche kit: transceiver, shovel and probe (you can rent it with us). Each posted tour lists everything on its page, and a private tour comes with a plan that says what to bring. We’re happy to help with rentals or anything else.
In Engelberg: splitboards and touring skis at Engelberg Mountain Guide. In Lucerne: splitboards at BikeLokal (formerly Boardlocal), touring skis at Von Moos. The avalanche kit can be rented with us, with or without an airbag.
Avalanche conditions and weather decide every tour. If a tour isn’t possible, you hear as early as we know, at the latest by 17:30 the day before, when the new avalanche bulletin is out, and it is cancelled with everything paid back. A private tour you can cancel free of charge until 17:00 the day before, as with every lesson. A posted tour is free to cancel until 14 days before, and at any time if someone takes your place; the steps after that are on each tour’s page. We confirm the planned go/no-go decision by then; conditions can still change overnight or during the day. Once started, the instructor can adapt or end the activity for safety or weather, without a refund, offering a suitable alternative where possible.
